Excitement is Buzzing – The Bees Are Coming!

There's palpable excitement in the frosty air at Saving the Honeybees in central Maine. Even as winter continues to hold its chilly grip, hope is on the horizon for beekeepers across the region.
This is the season when northern apiaries are busy gearing up for the year ahead. Planning and preparation are at the forefront as local beekeepers pore over catalogs, evaluate their winter losses, and place their orders for new bees and replacement queens.
Southern Apiaries Buzzing with Activity
Meanwhile, a very different scene is unfolding far to the south. The massive commercial apiaries in states like Georgia, Alabama, and Florida are raising thousands of new packages and nucleus colonies, getting ready to meet the surging demand from northern beekeepers who rely on these shipments to replenish their hives after long, harsh winters.
A Call for Support
This is our very small window — right now — when we reach out to fellow nature lovers and honeybee supporters who want to make a difference. We urge you to join our cause by sponsoring a package or nucleus colony of honeybees, to be added directly to our apiary to help fight the massive annual losses beekeepers in Maine and beyond contend with each year.
The Window is Closing Fast
Orders must be placed by late March or early April — or until southern apiaries sell out. Don't miss your chance to make a real difference for Maine's honeybees!
