Student Apiary Tour

We are thrilled to announce that Saving the Honeybees will be hosting its very first Student Apiary Tour this spring! On April 10th, 2026, we'll be welcoming students from the Wisdom Circle Homeschool Co-Op for an exciting, hands-on educational experience at our apiary.

After this winter's die-off, the hives students will see won't have live bees — although, since the colony has collapsed, everything else about a hive remains, except the bees. This tour offers a unique opportunity for students to learn about bees and beekeeping—even without live bees present. Because we will be working with dead-out hives, there's no risk of stings, making it a safe and hands-on experience for everyone.

What Students Will Experience

During the tour, students will get a close-up look inside the hives to examine the comb structures built by bees and learn where honey, pollen, and nectar are stored — and why. They will see firsthand how bees organize their environment and how beekeepers inspect hives to assess their health, even if the colonies are no longer alive.

Students will also help prepare the hives for new bees by cleaning and maintaining the equipment. This hands-on activity provides valuable insight into the life cycle of a hive, and the efforts beekeepers make to support pollinators. This interactive experience fosters a deeper understanding of honeybees' vital role in our ecosystem and emphasizes the importance of pollinator conservation.

Looking Forward

We're excited to open our apiary to young learners and share the importance of honeybees, pollination, and environmental stewardship. Stay tuned for more updates as we look forward to welcoming the Wisdom Circle Homeschool Co-Op and future groups!
