Important Information About Colony Survival
Unfortunately, some honeybee colonies die each year due to factors beyond anyone's control. If your sponsored hive or bees don't survive winter, we will replace them once at no cost to you. When other hives grow enough to be divided, we'll use the extra bees to rebuild your hive and purchase a new queen to restart the colony.
Because colony losses are common, some hives end up without bees. Sponsoring Packages or Nucs helps replace those bees. Only the Hive or Colony Sponsorship includes a new hive and equipment and is a one-time cost with benefits for as long as the hive lasts. Package and Nuc Sponsorships are one-time investments that provide benefits for two years.

Your $50 Apiary Supporter contribution helps cover essential ongoing costs of maintaining healthy hives and apiary operations, including supplies, inspections, and repair or replacement of equipment and more. Your support ensures we can care for our bees year-round, promote pollinator health, and continue our efforts to save and sustain honeybees in Maine.

A package of honeybees contains approximately 10,000 bees and a queen, representing the foundation of a new colony. By sponsoring a package, you are directly responsible for establishing a thriving hive that will pollinate thousands of plants and produce honey for years to come. This level of support makes a substantial difference in expanding our apiary.
Your Impact
Your $150 Package Sponsorship helps fund the delivery of a package of bees, including a queen and worker bees, to support honeybee conservation and apiary growth. The funds cover the cost of purchasing and transporting bees, as well as installation into a ready hive setup and health treatments. Your support enables us to rebuild colonies, promote pollinator health, and educate the community about honeybee importance in Maine.

Support an Established Colony
A nucleus colony (nuc) is a small, established colony with 5 frames of bees, brood, honey, and a laying queen. Nucs are stronger than packages and have a higher success rate. By sponsoring a nuc, you are supporting a colony that is already thriving and will quickly grow to full strength, providing maximum pollination benefits.
Your Impact
Your $200 "Nuc" (nucleus colony) provides a strong, ready-to-grow mini-hive with a queen, worker bees, and brood. That is transferred into a larger hive for growth and expansion. The funds are used to purchase and transport the bees, equipment, and necessary supplies. Your donation also supports hive management, health treatments, and educational efforts to help rebuild and strengthen honeybee populations in Maine.

Become a Guardian of a Complete Hive
As a Hive Sponsor, you take on the most impactful role in our conservation efforts. You are responsible for an entire, fully-established hive that can house up to 80,000 bees at peak season. Your sponsorship ensures comprehensive year-round care, including winter preparation, spring buildup, swarm prevention, disease management, and honey harvesting. The Hive Sponsor program is unique among our offerings—your benefits continue for the entire life of the hive, which can be 3 to 5 years or more with proper care, all covered by your one-time initial investment. This is the ultimate way to support honeybee conservation with lasting impact.
Your Impact
Your $325 Complete Hive (with bees) provides a fully established, healthy colony that supports local pollination and honey production. The funds are used to cover the cost of the bees, hive equipment, and safety gear. Additionally, your donation helps us maintain and care for the hive, support bee health treatments, and further our educational programs to promote pollinator conservation in Maine.
