Beekeeper inspecting hive frames at Hood Brook Apiary

Welcome to Our Apiary!

We are a small, passionate apiary dedicated to honeybee conservation and education. After experiencing a total hive loss, we are working hard to rebuild and restore our colonies. Despite our challenges, we believe in sharing the vital role honeybees play in our ecosystems and helping others learn how to support pollinators.

About Our Tours

Our student apiary tours are designed to be educational and hands-on, providing a unique opportunity for students to learn about honeybee conservation, hive structure, and pollination. The best time to visit is before April 20th, when our bees are not yet active.

  • Since the hives are inactive before bee arrival, there is almost no risk of stings.
  • Unique opportunity to inspect previous year's hives that have died — see capped brood, honey and pollen stores.
  • Learn about hive structure, pollination, and the vital role bees play in our ecosystem.

When Our Bees Arrive

Once our new colonies are here, I will keep an inactive hive available for inspections that are sting-free.

  • With prior approval from teachers and parents, curious and brave students may be able to inspect active hives.
  • We are working to provide bee suits suitable for students between 5'2" and 5'6".
  • If we don't have enough suits for everyone interested, students will take turns, with a few suited up at a time, so everyone gets a chance to experience this exciting part of beekeeping.
